Having worked many vintages working for big wineries such as Yalumba, Wolf Blass and Peter Lehmann, Dave Powell established Powell wines with his partner. Their son, Callum, joined the venture in 2014 and such Powell & Son was born. Callum’s focus is on respecting the plants and nature and is a strong proponent of organic and biodynamic viticulture. The understanding of his vines and the resulting fruit is reflected in the quality of the wine.
This Shiraz is a 50/50 blend of Shiraz grapes from the Eden and Barossa Valleys. Sourced from 40 year old and 60 year old vines, respectively, this Shiraz shows great complexity and flavour concentration. The resulting wine has a great tannic structure with dark and red cherry and kirsch flavours, evolving into ripe blackberry and black olive. On the nose there are elements of lavender and sage with charred and smoked meats.
Great as an accompaniment to smokey eggplant or charred meats, olive oil and charred bread.
