Mario Marson and his wife Helen began cultivating vines in Heathcote in 2000. Mario’s experience with wine began as a child when his father would make small batches of wine from vines planted in their backyard. The heritage goes back further, with his grandfather, a winemaker from Italy. Keen to continue in his foot steps, Mario planted then unknown varietals such as Sangiovese and Nebbiolo in the Cambrian soils of Heathcote.
The Vinea Marson Sangiovese Nebbiolo Rose is aptly renamed Rosato to reflect their Italian heritage. With 75% Sangiovese and 25% Nebbiolo, this wine ticks all the boxes. Pronounced aromas of strawberries and cream and notes of orange rind hit the nose. The creamy texture resulting from barrel fermentation compliments the vibrant acidity. Flavours of strawberry and cherry also predominate with slight hints of bitter herbs on the after palate. It has good length and is great value.
Enjoy with antipasto or a wood fired pumpkin and gorgonzola pizza.
