Founded in 1989 by Anne Marie Ambal, Domaine Veuve Ambal is located in the village of Rully, Burgundy. Anne’s aim is to create high quality sparkling wines, akin to those of Champagne. The wines were quickly considered among the top sparkling wines in France, winning first place in competitions by 1908. Although widely recognised as being excellent, the AOC Cremant de Bourgogne was not created until 1975. These wines are a great value alternative to Champagne and many have been made to just as stringent criteria.
The NV Veuve Ambal Cremant de Bourgogne is a true Burgundian blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay along with a hint of Gamey and Aligote. The purity of the fruit flavours is maintained by only using the first pressings of the juice. Ageing for a minimum of 12 months on fine lees in the bottle also imparts a more complex flavour profile. Delicate beads burst on the palate, filling the mouth with flavours of lychee, lemon and red grapefruit. White flowers are also evident on the nose along with hints of brioche and pastry.
The NV Veuve Ambal Cremant de Bourgogne is a beautiful accompaniment to hard cheeses and also creamy chicken dishes.
