Tenuta Montanello is run by 5th generation winemaker, Alberto Racca. Even though other varietals such as Barbera and Dolcetto are grown, Nebbiolo is still the principal grape grown.
The Langhe Nebbiolo is made from the youngest of their vines, but even these were only planted in 1992. No oak was used for this wine and the time spent on the skins is kept to 8 days, allowing the fresh fruit flavours to shine through.
The tannins are derived from the grape skins and they are beautifully ripe and smooth. Flavours of tart red fruit and light sweet spice dominate the palate, perfectly married with delicate whiffs of violets and earth.
Best enjoyed with cuts of beef such as rib eye, scotch fillet or slow roasted pork. This wine will also compliment washed rind cheeses such as Talleggio.
