Mario Marson and his wife Helen began cultivating vines in Heathcote back in 2000. His experience with wine began as a child when his father would make small batches of wine from vines planted in their backyard. The heritage goes back further, with his grandfather being a winemaker from Italy. Keen to continue the line, Mario planted then-unknown varietals such as Sangiovese and Nebbiolo in the Cambrian soils of Heathcote.
The Sangiovese is a medium-bodied wine with fine, grainy tannins and bright acidity. There are savoury notes with herbaceous undertones, mixed with fresh cherry and spice. A great example of new-world Sangiovese, just as Mario intended. Enjoy with tagliatelle with wild boar Ragu or a simple antipasto board with cheeses, cured eggplant and capsicum.
