2018 Cobaw Ridge Syrah

$81.00

Cobaw Ridge is a small family farm, nestled in the northern slopes of the Macedon Ranges. Their vineyards surround the farmhouse, a true example of a traditional owner operated winery. All of their wines are sourced from their own estate, which is rich in granite and sandy loam. With an elevation of 610 metres above sea level, the grapes enjoy a long ripening period and therefore have excellent acidity levels. All in all, Cobaw Ridge Estate produce stunning fruit with delicate characteristics and excellent minerality.

The fruit for the Cobaw Ridge Syrah, picked in early April is from 30 year old vines. The stems are removed from the berries before being fermented, producing a pure and spicy Syrah. With a long and cool maceration period, the tannins are smooth and non intrusive. Deep, dark fruit flavours of cherry and plum show first on the palate. A medium to full mouthfeel follows with spicy white pepper and a nervy acidity. On the finish, it is grippy and with a persistent length.

The Cobaw Ridge Syrah is an ideal match to slow roasted lamb shanks or other rustic fare.
