Domaine Mongeard Mugneret has a total of 25 hectares of vineyards in 22 different appellations. With an average age of 50 years, these vineyards produce some of the most complex and powerful wines in Burgundy. Vincent Mongeard runs the business today, however his family has been making wine since the 18th century. Early records show his ancestors working for none other than Domaine de la Romanee-Conti in 1786. All his wines are made from de-stemmed grapes, further concentrating the fruit flavours. No fining or filtering takes place unless the vintage is particularly bad.
2017 was one of the easiest and healthiest growing seasons Vincent can remember. With clean and ripe fruit, the wines obtained are excellent. The Domaine Mongeard Mugnere has a fine toast character from new oak barrels with notes of minerality and a rich, dark fruit character. The palate is broad and complex with an outstanding length. As with many of his wines, it drinks beautifully young. However, it can be cellared for up to 15 years without compromising its power.
The Domaine Mongeard Mugnere is an ideal match to a decadent cheese board and also to feathered game.
