The first vineyards of Crawford River were planted by John and Catherine Thomson in 1975. Then this area was very much unexplored, but now it is known as the wine region of Henty. The cool, southern climate and maritime influence prolong the ripening season and give complex, age-worthy wines. All the fruit is grown in their own vineyards and their philosophy is that of patience and great attention to detail.
Another stellar example of Victorian Riesling, Crawford River’s 2017 vintage is an age worthy wine full of power and with a delicate edge. Aromas of lime blossom and slate marry with chalky mineral texture and spicy phenolics. The palate is intense with taught acidity and excellent finish. Drinks well now, but has great ageing potential.
Enjoy with fresh goats cheese or freshly steamed prawns and a light vinaigrette.
