Altaness was founded in the Huon Valley of Southern Tasmania in 2013 after meticulous searching for the perfect site. The cool climate in the region produces delicate wines with elegance and lifted aromatics. Pure and precise, their wines make up in quality what they lack in quantity. With only one hectare of vines featuring a mixture of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, these wines are rare. The wine making duo behind Altaness have more than 2 decades of experience combined and personally follow the process from grape to glass.
2017 is the first vintage of Altaness Chardonnay, and only 700 bottles were made. This wine underwent no filtration or fining prior to bottling. It is a delicate, cool climate Chardonnay with light mineral notes and a good acid structure. It has pronounced aromas with green citrus and white peach. Natural fermentation in new French oak barrels also lends a spicy and toasted complexity. The texture is smooth and supple with a persistent finish.
Altaness Chardonnay is a great match to grilled white fish and also shellfish.
