Sangiovese from the Montalcino region of Italy is world famous for its longevity, elegance and structure.
Rosso is said to be the little brother of Brunello, however this example from Le Ragnaie has enough depth and power to be comparable to some of the best wines from the region.
This is a medium bodied wine with a good backbone of acidity. It is fresh and juicy on the palate, and shows notes of dark plum and red cherry. The palate displays dried flowers, cedar and cloves as well as meaty notes of leather and game. Ageing in oak for 9 months results in tannins that are smooth and well-evolved.
Enjoy with fennel salami or an aged pecorino cheese. Rustic pasta dishes will be excellent if enjoying with a main. This wine would benefit from decanting.
