Bass Phillip is named after two early explorers of Victoria, George Bass and Arthur Phillip. It is one of Gippsland’s most renowned Pinot Noir and Chardonnay producers. Their vineyards are biodynamically run, which enhances the signature of each vintage and soil type. The region also has deep mineral rich soils, natural humidity and cool temperatures. Due to these features, the wines have a great length, complex flavours and a natural minerality.
With only two to three barrels made annually, they only use the best fruit from 45 year old vines. The Bass Phillip Premium Chardonnay has a taut structure and power compared to the Estate Chardonnay. The palate shows grapefruit and white peach notes, and it has a rich and creamy texture. Underlying minerality keeps the palate fresh and ever-evolving. Toasted notes and honeysuckle also show on the mid-palate, kept alive by vibrant acidity.
The Bass Phillip Premium Chardonnay is an ideal match to rich and creamy dishes. It is also a surprising match to caramelised root vegetables.
