Syrahmi is one of Adam Foster’s three labels, focusing on the great wines of the Rhone Valley. The fruit is sourced from Heathcote, which is particularly well suited for Syrah grapes. Adam began his career as a chef, developing an exceptional palate. Even though he never studied viticulture, he has experience from many great estates in both France and Australia. As a wine maker, Adam knows the importance of terroir and seamlessly allows each vintage to be expressed.
The Syrahmi Granite Shiraz is made from Syrah grapes, of which 80% is fermented in whole bunches. The lightness and freshness of the fruit is evident with aromas of wild raspberries and cherries. Heathcote’s soils shine through as the aromas move into granite and wet earth. It has a complex palate that shows smoked meats and black olives, reminiscent of the great wines of Hermitage. Fine tannins and a juicy acidity also drive the length with an intense energy and weighty mid-palate.
The Syrahmi Granite Shiraz is a perfect match to whole roasted duck and also to herb crusted lamb.
