Henschke is one of the most iconic family run wine producers in Australia. They have several excellent vineyards producing wines rivaling the top Estates of the world. With a turbulent history dating back to 1868, the family is now approaching their 6th generation of winemakers. Their famous Hill of Grace vineyard boasts some of the oldest vines in the world. These vines are 150 years old.
Prue Henschke introduced biodynamic and organic practices in the vineyard, giving marked results in the cellar. With the land and vines in balance, the effect on the aromatic complexity and depth of flavour is incredible. Their vineyards are fully sustainable. They also strive to promote preservation of the natural habitats surrounding them.
The 2015 Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon has intense aromas of red and black currant. It also shows mulberry, forest leaf, cassis and violet aromas. Dried herb and cigar box are also evident, an indication of the finely integrated oak. The palate is rich with black and blueberry, mocha and cedar notes. This wine also has fine and velvety tannins filling the mouth, balanced by a supple acidity and a long finish.
The 2015 Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon is an ideal match to braised lamb neck or shoulder.
