Planted in the 1940’s, the vineyards of Azelia produce only small quantities of grapes. This provides superior quality fruit with increased mineral character.
This traditional Barolo is aged in large format oak casks for 24 months. While Barolos of old can be thin and austere in their youth, this wine is made with fruit of perfect ripeness, producing a wine that drinks very well immediately.
The nose is pronounced and sweet with cherry, blackcurrant and liquorice notes. The tannins are tight and grippy, but will ripen and soften when decanted. With an ageing potential of decades, this wine can be cellared for some time still.
