Thierry and his wife manage 6 hectares of vineyards located in the regions of Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Monthelie and Beaune. He takes great care of his land which is managed organically. There are no pesticides or chemical fertilisers used, keeping the grapes as unaffected by human intervention as possible. He takes a similar stance in the winery as he strives to make the wines as true to their terroir as they can be.
Overall, 2014 was a good year for Pinot Noir in large parts of Burgundy. Many of the wines show juicy flavours of fresh cherry and berries with depth and tension. Thierry created his Rouge using a pre fermentation cold soak, which resulted in silky smooth tannins. Notes of red berry fruit with cinnamon and spice are also evident on the nose. The palate then follows though with cloves, cinnamon and hints of earth and forest floor. Finally, the finish is persistent with balanced, fresh acidity.
The Thierry Violet Guillemard Bourgogne Rouge is an ideal match to leaner cuts of beef or game.
