Sandro and Claudia Gini see themselves as custodians of tradition and heritage. With winemaking history dating back to the 1500’s, Sandro’s family is one of the oldest in the Soave region. Unlike other growers in the area, they did not uproot and replant their wines. Remarkably, the vines survived the plague of phylloxera, making them some of the oldest in Italy. The vines produce grapes with flavours and aromas of outstanding complexity. The yields are minute, making each bunch a blessing.
Made from 100 year old vines, the Gini Contrada Salvarenza Soave Classico Garganega is amazingly complex and has a great depth of flavour. The nose is filled with flinty mineral notes, yellow peach, pineapple and white flowers. Ripe pear and juicy peach come through on the palate, followed by mineral notes and gentle clove. It has been aged for 3 years on old French oak, and this is responsible for the mature and complex fruit flavours. With a full body, juicy acidity and persistent length, this wine is of excellent quality. It drinks beautifully now, but will keep if so desired.
The Gini Contrada Salvarenza Soave Classico Garganega is a delicious with traditional Veronese dishes such as rich Risotto al Tastasal with sausage and radicchio.
