Henschke is one of the most iconic family run wineries in Australia. They have several excellent vineyards which produce wines rivaling the top Estates of the world. With a turbulent history dating back to 1868, the family is now approaching their 6th generation of winemakers. With 150 year old wines, their famous Hill of Grace vineyard boasts some of the oldest vines in the world.
Prue Henschke pratices biodynamic and organic practices in the vineyard, and this is showing marked results in the cellar. With the land and vines in balance, the effect on the aromatic complexity of the wine and depth of flavour is incredible. Their vineyards are sustainable and they also promote preservation of their natural habitat.
The 2005 Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon has lifted aromas along with blackcurrant, blueberry and dark fruit notes. The age of the wine is starting to show with sage, hints of cedar, tobacco and dried fruits. With a medium body, fine well integrated tannins and layers of oak complexity, the palate is surprisingly fresh. Bottle age also gives the finish poise and elegance along with a focused and persistent length. With refreshing acidity and a youthful tannin drive, this wine will keep developing for some years to come.
The 2005 Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon is an ideal match to a prime cut of lean beef or game.
