Henschke is one of the most iconic family run wine producers in Australia. They have several excellent vineyards producing wines rivalling the top Estates of the world. With a turbulent history dating back to 1868, the family is now approaching their 6th generation of winemakers. Their famous Hill of Grace vineyard boasts some of the oldest vines in the world, being 150 years old.
Prue Henschke introduced biodynamic and organic practices in the vineyard, giving marked results in the cellar. With the land and vines in balance, the effect on the aromatic complexity and depth of flavour is incredible. Their vineyards are fully sustainable and they strive to promote preservation of the natural habitats surrounding them.
2004 saw perfectly ripe fruit in the Eden Valley vineyard, and this is clearly evident when drinking this wine. The 2004 Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon has pronounced aromas of cassis, violet and blueberry which are accompanied with subtle hints of vanilla and also cedar. The palate follows through with dark berry fruit and a broad, soft texture. Supple tannins and plush fruit drive the finish. The length is pleasingly long with layers of complexity.
2004 Henschke Cyril Cabernet Sauvignon is an ideal match to a prime cut of lean beef and also game.
