Chateau l’Eglise Clinet is very modestly sized compared to other Bordeaux producers. With a minute 5.5 hectares of vines, this size is more commonly seen in regions such as Burgundy. In a similar fashion, the wine is made with minimal intervention focusing on the health of the land and thus the fruit. Located on the prestigious Pomerol plateau, the vineyards rich in iron and riddled with sand, clay and gravel. With an average age of 45 years, the vines produce richly concentrated fruit with excellent complexity.
2000 is an excellent vintage for the wines from Pomerol, in fact it is the best vintage since 1990. The wines are rich and powerful with an excellent tannin structure and balanced acidity. Chateau l’Eglise Clinet exhibits pronounced aromas of cassis, black cherry, bay leaf, fresh tobacco and woody spice. With a medium body and fine tannins, the palate shows deep blackberry, clove and rosemary. Subtle tones of caramel and toast shows the maturity, followed by a long finish.
This was is at optimum maturity, but will cellar for decades yet. It is an ideal match to rich duck breast and cherry red wine sauce.
