The Wynns Michael Shiraz was founded in 1955 hhen two casks of wine were of higher quality than the rest. Bottled separately, they have the label –  The 1955 Michael Hermitage. The fruit is from sites where the grapes show more elegant notes than opulent.  It is also aged exclusively in French oak barrels. unlike their other labels.

This vintage is a classic Barossa vintage, producing rich and complex wines with great ageing potential. In its’ youth, it showed huge aromas of dark berry fruit and plum.  It also showed liquorice, vanilla, coconut and coffee notes. The perfectly balanced palate follows through with blackberry, spice and vanilla. Truffles and black pepper are also evident, along with a red limestone mineral edge. The tannins are very smooth, with an exceptional finish. With nearly 20 years in the bottle, one can expect more tertiary characteristics of dried fruits, leather and tobacco.

The Wynns Michael Shiraz is an ideal match to smoked meats or barbecued dishes.
