This Margaux Chateau went through a full overhaul in 1994 when it was bought by the famous fashion house Chanel. New vines were planted, including Petit Verdot and increased plantings of Merlot, to improve the Chateau’s blends. To create allow for the best possible blend each time, all of the grapes are now vinified and matured separately. Their wines improved markedly after the acquisition, and they consistently receive stellar reviews.
This is the first of many outstanding vintages from this newly invigorated Chateau. The Chateau Rauzan Gassies shows ripe blackcurrant and toasty notes of cedar and tobacco which dominate the concentrated aromas. This wine also shows a resinous and almost spicy impression with ripe blue and red berry fruit notes. The palate follows through with great width, length and complexity. Ripe and smooth tannins finish off the palate with exceptional power and elegance. This wine drinks beautifully now, but will keep for years to come.
The Chateau Rauzan Gassies is an ideal match to a dry aged Scotch fillet.
