Chateau Clinet is situated on one of the best parcels of land Pomerol has to offer. Perched on top of a well-drained plateau with gravel soils, this estate produces some of the right-banks’ best wines. It also showcases some of Pomerol’s oldest vineyards, parts of which can be traced back to the end of the 16th century. The vast majority of the vines are Merlot, from which they produce some of the best in the world. The Chateau pride themselves on producing beautifully balanced and harmonious wines that show great focus and depth.
This is a great vintage for the gravel-based vineyards of Pomerol. The season produced structured red wines with a pure expression of fruit. The wines are also complex and harmonious. The 1995 Chateau Clinet is a full-bodied wine that has rich layers of fruit on the palate. The aromas are also pronounced with red and black forest fruits along with coffee and toasty oak. Following is a layered palate with notes of blackberry, cassis and liquorice. The dense texture has chewy tannins and it has a long finish.
This wine is an ideal match to succulent pork cutlets and grilled veal. It will also cellar for another five years, if desired.
